World Wrestling Month: Day 24!

Day 24 of World Wrestling Month! 49 North Wrestling’s match of the day is a prime example of why we could use 10 weight classes at the World Championships, especially if the Olympic weights are cut to 6. For the 48 kg bronze medal at the 1985 Senior World Championships, Laszlo Biro (Hungary) faces Vassili Gogolev (USSR) in an action packed match!

World Wrestling Month: Day 23!

Day 23 of World Wrestling Month! 49 North Wrestling’s match of the day is the 84 kg gold medal match from the 2004 Canada Cup! 2004 World University Champion Pejman Dorostkar (Iran) battles 1999 World Champion and multiple time medalist Yoel Romero (Cuba). Romero is known for his explosive attacks and his sportsmanship, both of which are on display here. His method of apology for a butting of heads is not often matched.

Day 22 of World Wrestling Month! 49 North Wrestling’s match of the day is the 82 kg gold medal match from the 1985 Senior World Championships! 2-Time World Champion and 1984 Olympic Champion Mark Schultz (USA) faces multiple time World Medalist Alexander Nanev (Bulgaria)! In the upcoming film, Foxcatcher, Channing Tatum steps into the role of Mark Schultz, while Mark Ruffalo takes on the role of his brother and fellow wrestling legend Dave Schultz!

Ukraine Announces Roster for Battle at the Falls

Ukraine announces roster for “Battle at the Falls”

Team Ukraine will come out in force for wrestling tri-meet in Niagara Falls 

Ottawa, ON –  Team Ukraine today announced its line-up for the Batte At The Falls, and they will come with some of its top athletes to compete at this tri-country wrestling meet in Niagara Falls in Canada.

Team Ukraine are expected to be tough competitors for the Canadian and American wrestlers as they ended the 2013 European Championships as the top nation among the group.

Former World Champions Katerina Burmistrova (72kg) and Ganna Vasilenko (63kg), are headlining the Ukraining crew, joined by current European Champion and two-time Junior World Champion Alina Stadnik-Makinya, 67kg.

In the 59 kg weight class Natalya Synyshyn is a two-time European Champion and bronze medallist at World Championships.

Yulia Blahinya, 51kg, and Irina Husyak, 55kg, are two medallists from the 2013 European Championships.
